UL Learning Support

Learning Support personnel provide direct and indirect support to students who exhibit difficulty with learning and/or performance. We also endeavor to help students progress in their understanding of their own learning, increase their academic independence, and strengthen their executive functioning skills. In order to assist students, Learning Support personnel collaborate with teachers, administrators, students, and parents.

For students with a psycho-educational evaluation, an Action Plan is developed by the Director of Learning Support based on the evaluation and is used to provide faculty with information about a student's learning and recommended accommodations. Students with a diagnosed learning disability should have a current psychological evaluation on file at school, current within the last five years.

While The Galloway School does not modify our academic curriculum, we can provide the following accommodations, as recommended by a current psychoeducational evaluation.

  • Extended time
  • Strategic seating
  • Ability to take tests/quizzes in a quieter location
  • Use of a laptop
  • Assistance with note taking
  • Use of assistive technology and by-pass strategies such as calculator, laptop, audiobooks, etc.
  • No penalty for spelling errors
