Dear Galloway Community,
The 2019 – 2020 academic year marks the fourth year in my role as head of community engagement. In that capacity, I meet with alumni and alumni parents, assist with the work of the Admissions Office, and write for various publications of The Galloway School. I represent the school at the monthly meetings of the Chastain Park Partners and the Chastain Park Civic Association. I help plan programs at the school and teach European History and one section of the introductory course in Political Science in Upper Learning as well as several electives in Middle Learning.
Three years ago I initiated a faculty-led book club; I continue to participate in the Parents’ Association book club as well. This year we will have the opportunity to read books with teachers in Upper Learning, summer reading A Long Way Gone led by English teachers Amy Robinson and Danielle Reed as well as Sapiens, led by World History teacher Alex Diaz-Williamson; Blindspot led by Early Learning teacher Jennifer Salerno; and a book led by the Middle Learning administrative staff, principal Sarah Armstrong, assistant principal Candace Bell, and guidance counselor Mary Giatina, Under Pressure. We have added something new this year; the Early Learning librarian Steve Bartl will lead a discussion of The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe for students as well as parents.
